Updating this post from the old forums:

I have the skeleton of a background for my character. In a nutshell, he was the son of a Norscan blacksmith who's village was raided. He was taken as a slave. Eventually, he was able to fight for his freedom. Following a dream (from a raven?), he wandered into the Chaos Wastes. He arrived at the Inevitable City years later, having proven himself to Tzeentch. He was now a Chosen.

(insert many tests and trials during the intervening years.)

Sometimes for characters I'll go deep into their pasts, creating a host of story goals and inner conflict, but I'm not sure it's needed for this character. My Chosen is simple at heart: dedicated, battle-hardened, and eager to crush the forces of Order. Besides that, he enjoys Sunday afternoons watching the NFL and moonlights as a fantasy author.

UPDATE: After arriving in the City, Soloroth joined a warband headed south to raid the weak southern lands. However, they were ambushed outside of Praag and massacred almost to a man. Soloroth was felled and lay as one dead. The Dark Gods smiled upon him, though, as another chaos band chose that moment to launch their own attack. The Kislevites, caught off-guard, were routed and fled back to their town. The leader of this new band possessed magicks to bring Soloroth back to consciousness. In return for his life, the Chosen offered his sword to this charismatic warlord, who accepted stoically.

Thereafter, the tales of their slaughters were told from coast to coast. This new band, part of a greater body called the ASC, proved hardier and more dedicated to sowing the seeds of destruction than any other in the north. Rather than serving out of a sense of honor, Soloroth relished in the comraderie he shared with these powerful soldiers of darkness. As time went on, he realized the Raven God, while a powerful ally, was not the final answer. Instead, Soloroth chose to take what gifts the Chaos Gods gave him and use them to further his own ends.

Seams like a good overview. You could think of how to make your character more unique than most chosen. I wrote up a story were my "chosen" was forced into the role  :twisted:
